Montana silversmiths buckles and jewlery? can they get wet without getting ruined?

i just purchased a silver and gold electroplated bracelet from montana silversmiths and its the kind you squeeze to fit your wrist. i absolutely love it and i%26#039;m afraid to ruin it. apparently all you need to do is wipe it down with a damp cloth to clean it. would it be ok if i wore it all the time? what about in the shower? has anyone had any experience with this silversmith? im asking this in this section because i figured more horse people would know this brand compared to the accessory section. thanks in advance.

Montana silversmiths buckles and jewlery? can they get wet without getting ruined?
I own several pieces also. And I%26#039;ve worn them through alot. The water never hurt them...and neither did dirt. I just made sure I cleaned them. I have a barette that is out in all kinds of weather...and it looks just as good as it did when I bought it. And sweat has never hurt them either.

What I wouldn%26#039;t expose it to is harsh chemicals though...but that is common sense.

And I agree with another poster...what%26#039;s the point of buying it...if you can%26#039;t wear it all the time??
Reply:I have experience with montana slimversmiths, and no they will not get ruined when they are wet and you could probably wear it in the shower but there is a change that it could rust a little so if you get it wet just dry it off with a dry cloth or something. It can be wet but if it is constantly wet all the time then it could get ruined.
Reply:I%26#039;ve won I think 6 or 7 WC buckles, all by Montana the buckles seem to hold up great. On the other hand over the years I have bought numerous amounts of bracelets, and ear rings. They do not hold up if worn very often. If you keep them in the blue velvet box they come in, keep them clean, and wear them to show in or on occasion they are fine. But, nothing like sterling, or gold. Wearing it in the shower and everyday, I would say it will flake and tarnish, sooner than later. You%26#039;re better off buying sterling silver, and it%26#039;s cheaper than groceries, or gas right now! Ha, Ha!
Reply:Since it is electroplated it is possible to damage it if it is bumped against a hard or sharp object. Getting it wet won%26#039;t hurt it. What is the sense of having it if you don%26#039;t wear it. Through normal wear and tear it should last you for years if you take care of it and clean it regularly.
Reply:you can wear it all the time, but DO NOT get it really wet.

if you were to wear it in the shower it would probably tarnish fairly fast. you really don%26#039;t want that.

so if i were you i%26#039;d just take it off before getting in any kind of water!

GOOD LUCK!
Reply:I have several beltbuckles that i have won made by montana silver, and I wear it all the time rain or shine. I wouldnt think a braclet would get hurt by wearing it all the time.
Reply:They don%26#039;t have the quality of product they used to. I know never use silver cleaner on it. Which seems pretty odd since it%26#039;s supposed to be silver. It will turn dark and always have a tarnished look to it.
Reply:i wear montana silver smith belt buckle and i wear ir in the rain and evne wash it with soap and water
Reply:Most Montana silver is silver electroplated over another metal, not solid silver. It can be chipped and it can tarnish. With normal wear and tear it will last for many years, but constant use is going to shorten its lifespan.

The silver can be scratched fairly easily, once it has a scratch the top layer of silver can peel or chip worse. Once that happens the metal is open to tarnishing. So I would wear it regularily, but if you know you are going to do an activity the makes it at huger risk for impact and scratching I would remove it.

As for wearing it in a shower, I don%26#039;t think that will be a problem. Dry it off and the skin underneath it when you are finished and you shouldn%26#039;t have problems. Most tarnishing and peeling of the silver occurs if it gets wet and then stays wet for a long period of time, not during a simple immersion and then being dried.

My Grandmother always had good china dishes with real gold trim around the edges. It is a well known fact that if you wash your china in a dishwasher the gold slowly fades. But my grandma continued to use her china regularily, and she continued to put it in the dishwasher. In her opinion it wasn%26#039;t any good having it if she couldn%26#039;t use it, and she knew she wouldn%26#039;t use it much if it had to be handwashed and babied. You will have to decide for yourself how much you want to baby the silver, and how much you want to use it.

Looking for black leather belts with removable buckles...?

Hey, I am trying to find a gift. I need a black leather belt with a removable buckle- or no buckle @ all; I will be adding my own. I have some myself, but they%26#039;re too... my style/plain. I have tried all the rodeo places where I usually purchase mine, but no one seems to carry one that%26#039;s embellished/studded and masculine enough for what I need. Does anyone have any helpful online suggestions? I seem to be striking out, and his birthday is just getting closer. Thank you for the help!

Can Pewter Belt Buckles be Engraved??

I am getting a Belt Buckle for my boyfriend for Christmas, and i was wanting to get the back of it engraved, it is made out of Pewter, is it possible to get this type of metal engraved?

Thanks for the help everyone, Kate

Can Pewter Belt Buckles be Engraved??
I would think anything pewter could be engrave. It%26#039;s really soft. Does pewter good for making buckles? Seems like it would bend and lose it%26#039;s holding abilities on the clasps.

Hey, I want to design my own belt buckles. Does anyone know any sites that sell kits, or how to get started?

Im not really interested in just stamping a decal on a premade, blank buckle. I want to to design a mould and create my own. Any ideas?

A kit would only let you assemble one that%26#039;s already designed.

Here are some ways to make your own:

Reply:www.sfjssantafe.com is a wholesaler that has all sorts of jewelry supplies. I have seen casting grain and alloy and other stuff like that there. They may well have moulding materials. I don%26#039;t shop that section of the website, but know it exists. They sell to jewelers and other folks who do silversmithing and other metalwork, so they probably have what you want. Their prices (at least on the sterling silver wire I buy from them) are the best I have seen.

Precious metal clay is also available at this site. That might be a workable alternative for you.
Reply:They have belt buckles like at t-shirt factory but here%26#039;s a website that you can buy from.
